Driver? Passenger? Left? Right? Arrgh!

Confused man choosing correct racing seatHere's a dilemma you've probably never faced before unless you've operated a website that sells racing seats! How do you communicate to your customer to which side of their vehicle you're referring?

For years we always referred to all side-specific products as "driver side" or "passenger side". And we still refer to seat brackets that way. We are careful to identify each bracket by driver or passenger position since they actually fit a specific position in the car. Of course, the driver-side can be on the left or on the right depending on the intended market for the vehicle. As you might guess, the driver-side bracket on a website called "RacingSeatsUSA" will generally be installed on the left side of the car (left from the driver's perspective) but that's not always the case. So where we sell brackets for a right-hand drive vehicle, we try to be very careful to call that out in the product description. (See Planted Technnology driver's side seat bracket for the 89-98 Nissan Skyline Japanese Domestic Market.)

But we recently made a switch regarding seats. In the case of seats, there is really no such thing as a "driver's seat". It is simply the seat that ends up getting installed on the drivers-side of a vehicle, be that left or right. But neither is it true that the side on which a seat is installed doesn't matter, particularly for reclining seats. The tilt lever is usually most conveniently located on the outside of the car facing the door and not up against the console. So we now refer to Left seat and Right seat, where the Left seat has the tilt lever on the left and the Right seat has the tilt lever on the right, where you expect. This becomes important when you're individually customizing things like seat heaters and lumbar supports. Those need to be installed on the intended seat.

Does that clear things up or make it worse? Here is the great news: You're not shopping on Amazon where you're left entirely on your own to "figure it out." We (real people--not chat-bots) are standing by to answer your racing seat questions in any level of detail you request. We want to ensure you get exactly the right seats, brackets, and accessories for your vehicle--no matter which side the driver sits on! Reference the multiple contact methods listed at both top and bottom of every page on this website. We are eager to hear from you and make your shopping experience great!
